Welcome to the official website of the Department of Social Development and Welfare (PSdK) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Universitas Gadjah Mada. The spirit that carries the Department of PSdK forward is “Mainstreaming Your Social Responsibility”. This theme emphasizes the importance of social responsibility of the government, the private sector, and the general public. Social responsibility is the foundation for us to actualize community empowerment amidst our fast-changing world.

Today, the Department of PSdK develops three study focuses based on the analysis of actors of public welfare actualization; the government, the private sector, and the civil society. These three study focuses cover: social policy, corporate social responsibility, and community empowerment.

The study on social policy discusses the role of the government in achieving welfare for its citizens using the instruments of regulations, institutions, and human resources. The study on corporate social responsibility covers the role of the private sector (limited liability companies, enterprises, and others) in actualizing public welfare by allocating the resources they posses as the implementation of their corporate social responsibility. The study on community empowerment highlights the role of civil society in achieving public welfare, either directly via programs intended for members of the community, or via policy advocacies to the government and influences on the performance of private sector in relation to CSR.

The Department of PSdK invites all parties to embrace this spirit of actualizing community welfare by continuously carrying out teaching, facilitation, and research activities.

A Brief History of PSdK

In accordance with Government Regulation No. 15 of 1957 on Teaching Level Structure at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Universitas Gadjah Mada, the Study Program of Social Welfare Sciences was officially established. The Study Program of Social Welfare Sciences was established as a response to social issues arising during the post-independence era of the Republic of Indonesia. In 2010, the name of the Study Program of Social Welfare Sciences was officially changed to the Study Program of Social Development and Welfare (PSdK), in reference to Decree of UGM Rector No. 10/P/SK/HT/2010. 


This change was made due to the more complex social issues arising along with the ever-changing nature of social sciences. Nowadays, the Department of PSdK develops three study focuses based on the analysis of actors of public welfare actualization; the government, the private sector, and the civil society. These three study focuses cover: social policy, corporate social responsibility, and community empowerment.

Virtual Tour of PSdK

Entrance to the Department

The Entrance is located on Floor 3 of the BC Building of Fisipol UGM, and this entrance is decorated with mural paintings. There are also some chairs and tables for visitors to relax, have discussion, or do assignments.

Department Hall

The Hall is where lecturer’s rooms, minilab room, meeting room 2, and multimedia room are located. The building in this hall was renovated in 2023 in order to improve its convenience.

Meeting Room 1

This room is functioned as a venue for presenting thesis defence, welcoming guests, and holding department level meetings.

Meeting Room 2

This room is functioned as a venue for presenting thesis defence, welcoming guests, and holding department level meetings.

Minilab

This room is dedicated for students to read casually and to have light discussions.

Multimedia Room

This room is used by staff members of the Department of PSdK to create media contents.

Lounge

This room is a casual waiting room in the administration section of the Department of PSdK, which is located on Floor 3 of BB Building.
