Overview of The Department of Social Development and Welfare

The Department of Social Development and Welfare, which is previously known as the Study Program of Social Welfare Sciences (Sosiatri), was established in July 1957 in accordance with Government Regulation No. 15 of 1957. In reference to Decree of UGM Rector No. 100/P/SK/HT/2010, the name of the Study Program of Social Welfare Sciences was officially changed to the Study Program of Social Development and Welfare (PSdK).

The Department of PSdK Fisipol UGM establishes cooperation with all parties having interest in actualizing sustainable development in all kinds of activities.

The Department of PSdK facilitates studies on social development through social problem solving strategies in order to achieve welfare. The approach is implemented through three processes of community empowerment, social policy, and empowerment in the context of corporate social responsibility. 

The bachelor study program of the Department of PSdK offers some types of courses, among others: University Compulsory Courses; Faculty Compulsory Courses; General Courses; Department Compulsory Courses; Research Focus; Department Elective Courses. They make up a total of 149 credits. 

Graduates of the Department of PSdK have vast career options, from government officials, company personnel, academics, private sector employees, to sociopreneurs/entrepreneurs.

Learning activities at PSdK are performed inside and outside class, which of course support students in developing their academic knowledge and soft skills. Such activities include writing bootcamps, self-development series, research grants, and joint courses.

The Department of PSdK has a student body known as Keluarga Mahasiswa Pembangunan Sosial dan Kesejahteraan (The Family of Social Development and Welfare Students/KAPSTRA). KAPSTRA carries out activities to help students improve their capacities in academic and non-academic fields. Such activities include academic discussions, the welfare cup event, KAPSTRA mengajar (KAPSTRA teaches), and many more. In addition, at the faculty and university level, there are many Student Activity Units (UKM) covering many areas for our students to join.

There are many scholarships that students of the Department of PSdK can access, including: The Smart Indonesia Card (KIP), the Bank Indonesia scholarship, the LPDP scholarship, and many others.
